Audience Member VS Spectator

There is a gargantuan difference between being an Audience Member and being a Spectator.
Neither role is bad.
You can be an Audience Member.
You can be a Spectator.
The difference is experiential.
A Spectator comes to an arts event, sporting event, and the like; to be engaged in the sensory experience of the space.
An Audience Member's engagement with the space is based in knowledge of the history, comparing and contrast old work with new, a thought-provoking quest for enlightenment, a wonder of what is to come in the future, and how the past, present, and future works blend together to paint a picture of the times we are in.
Obviously, we can tell one experience is different than the other, but both are valid.
